Coronation Street fans blindsided as rival soap star makes cobbles debut

Coronation Street fans tuning into Tuesday night’s visit to the Cobbles, were treated to a very unexpected guest when Hollyoaks legend Nicole Barber Lane appeared at Kevin’s garage, Webster’s Autos, in the hope of finding a reliable mechanic to service her taxi firm’s fleet.

Initially things appeared to be promising, but Cassie Plummer soon put her foot in it when she revealed that she was an ex-junkie and had learnt all of her vocational skills while serving time at her majesty's pleasure – something which didn't go down too well with owner Kevin who considered his new recruit to be a "liability" when it came to drumming up new clients.

While the scenes unfolded before viewers eyes, fans saw new employee Cassie try to win over the potential new client Ange – but despite the plot line, many viewers couldn’t help but be distracted by the appearance of the rival soap star, who will be most familiar to fans for playing Myra McQueen in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

Corrie, Emmerdale and EastEnders cast leave Inside Soap Awards after boozy celebrations

Sporting a brand new look for her role, Nicole, 53, looked worlds away from her previous Hollyoaks role as she donned a stylish business casual ensemble complete with studded sleeve coat, while her hair was flecked with grey in a far cry from previous character Myra’s raven black locks.

Even personality wise, Ange seemed to have a far more laid back attitude than bolshy Myra, with many fans delighted to see the actress back on their screens after an absence of more than eight years.

Taking to social media to share their shock, one fan wrote: "Myra McQueen in Corrie wtf is happening?”

"What’s Myra McQueen from Hollyoaks doing in Corrie then?" asked another viewer

A third fan then weighed in by writing: "Aw Myra from Hollyoaks, miss her on there.”

"She was brilliant as Myra McQueen in Hollyoaks and would be happy to see her return," added a fourth viewer.

However not everyone was quite so thrilled, with one fan cheekily branding her a "traitor" for having hopped over to the rival soap.

They wrote: "Myra Mcqueen get off the cobbles you absolute traitor!"

Nicole first appeared on Hollyoaks in 2006 as the iconic McQueen matriarch, Myra, and became a staple of the Channel 4 show until 2019, when the character was officially written out – something which meant actress Nicole was free to pursue other projects – including recent 2023 series The Gallows Pole.

Interestingly, as well as having appeared in Hollyoaks and now Coronation Street, Nicole also has an Emmerdale connection too as she was previously married to Dan Spencer actor Liam Fox from 1999 to 2015, with the couple sharing two children together.
