Strictlys Amy Dowden gives update amid cancer battle before fifth round of chemotherapy

Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden has provided a brave update as her fifth round of chemotherapy gets underway, amid her breast cancer battle.

Taking to Instagram, Amy posted a mirror selfie as she held up the number five, confirming that she is about to face a fresh round of treatment.

The 33 year old looked comfy as she wore a pink hoodie with black tracksuit bottoms.

In the snap, Amy is pictured connected to a drip as she appeared to be remaining positive as she had a smile on her face.

Alongside the selfie, Amy wrote: "Chemo 5 [tick]"

The latest update from the BBC star comes just a week after she shaved her hair off as she decided to take "control" after her locks started to fall out during treatment.

She explained that it was the "hardest step so far" as she let some of her family cut some of her hair before a hairdresser shaved the remainder off.

Amy shared the tearjerking video on Instagram, and she told her followers: "I’ve not been able to take control of this journey so far, but as you can see with some of my loved ones, I took the courage and CONTROL.

"It’s going to take some time to get use to and learn to love and embrace, but I’m now focussing-not on the hair I’m losing but the hair I’m going to get back and the happy dancing, tea lover who talks way to fast whilst rolling every rrrrr who is still there inside with or without hair!"

This week, Amy then shared another video from that tough day, as she danced in the garden with her loved ones, with a before and after look at her hair.

The idea came from her Strictly co-star Dianne Buswell, 34, and Amy was grateful for the chance to get some dancing into the day.

She said: "When @diannebuswell sends you reel ideas! Fair play, dad @richard_dowden, you steal the show here with your performance and energy #showman!

"This brought so much fun to the day! As dancing always does."

Amy is not taking part in this year's Strictly, but she is still in the show credits, and during the launch show, hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly sent their well wishes to her.

They said: "We are, of course, missing one of our professional dancers. Our gorgeous Amy Dowden is unwell, and she can't be with us for the start of the series, but she's our Welsh dragon, and we know she'll be back soon."
